Dear Childhood Nutritional Issues,
I am a mother of 10 years old boy. My son is 70 kgs and is really fond of eating. The school health report given by SHARP indicates that the child is obese. Please advise how I can help him lose weight. It will be difficult for him to diet. Please help me plan his diet in such a way that he does'nt feel weak and still he is able to lose weight.
Thanks

dietiting does not only mean that you have to reduce the amount of food that the child is eating. It also means the modification of the food that the child is consuming.
you need not restrict on the quantity of the food, rather focus on the quality of the food eaten by the child.
if your child is eating fried foods like samosa, bathura, pakodas; then you can subsitute it with foods like sandwiches, idli etc.
you can subsitute whole cream milk to toned milk. this will be highly beneficial.
also consumption of whole wheat bread should be encouraged. maida consumption can be replaced by consumption of atta.
if your child loves eating kurkule and chips, they can be substitued with fun flips.
kurkure's are fried food whereas fun flips are baked.
encourage consumption of salads and fruits rather than juices.
you should encourage your child to take tiffin at school if he is not taking it and eating out.
apart from all these diet modifications, it is essential that your child should exercise a little. encourage him to go out in the park and play rather than sitting at the home and watching tv or playing computer.
by all these little modifications, i am sure that your child would be able to reduce his weight without reducing the quantity of the food he is consuming.
